3 Things A Tourist Would Like About Haw Par Villa

Are you interested in a different experience in Singapore? Well, a good place to go for a totally different experience would be Haw Par Villa in the southern side of Singapore.

What is Haw Par Villa you ask? Well, it is a traditional Chinese tourist destination which boasts some of the best Chinese mythological figures and sculptures on the island.

Read on and learn more about this mythical place ...

1. Chinese mythology

One of the interesting aspects of Chinese culture is its mythological background. If you look at Chinese history, one of the most enduring aspects is its roots in myth. We are talking about thing like The Goddess of Mercy, The Romance of the Three Kingdoms and The Ten Courts of Hell.
If you’re in Haw Par Villa, there are sculptures and attractions centered round these myths. Of particular interest is The Ten Courts of Hell where statues show what happens to those who are banished into hell. Intricate figurines show mortal men being tortured by Hell as they are condemned to a life of infinite suffering.

2. Great sculptures

The sculptures in Haw Par Villa are awesome to look at. I’m not exactly sure who created the sculptures but they are very finely detailed and are for sure the best sculptures of Chinese folklore (outside of China that is). If you’re a lover of art, then this place is also a must-visit for you.

3. Popular tourist attraction

Haw Par Villa park contains well over 1,000 statues. It is a great place to visit if you’re keen on discovering Chinese folklore, legends and history. In fact, you’ll even see facets of Confucianism buried in its walls. But err .. I think the place is not really suitable for kids – so you’ll want to be careful about exposing your kids to this stuff.

Conclusion

Well, now you know what Haw Par Villa would offer to the average tourist. Trust me, if you’ve always been interested in Chinese folklore, this place is a definite stop in your itinerary.
