1. Do Your Research FirstMy friend, I can tell you one thing … buying stuff in Singapore’s Sim Lim can be daunting. The vast array of shops in there will confuse even seasoned computer buffs. So if my first piece of advice to you? Do your research first. If you’re bewildered by the choice of electronics and computers available in Singapore, I’d recommend that you visit www.cnet.com or www.pcmag.com to find some good reviews on the components you want to buy.2. Avoid The First and Second FloorsYou will certainly want to avoid being cheated on electronics and computer equipment while shopping in Sim Lim Square.

I will be frank with you, it is well known amongst the locals that the con-men in Sim Lim Square usually lay in the first and second floors. So if I were you, the first thing I’d do is to skip those floors and start shopping only at Level Three and above.
3. Go to Fuwell On Level ThreeI’d also like to tell you (in case you are not clear on the more famous and good value-for-money shops) – Fuwell on Level Three is one of the best places to buy computer stuff in Sim Lim Square. Why is this so, you ask? Well, the staff there are very knowledgeable – they don’t recommend a product that is the most costly. They recommend one that fits your needs. Also, the products I buy from Fuwell are of good quality – I’ve never had to go back to get a replacement or anything like that.4. Forget About Pirated GoodsIf you’re sort of a cheapskate (ha ha ha who isn’t) and want to buy pirated software or goods, let me assure you my friend – there is none in Singapore. The police in Singapore, in case you didn’t know – are very tough on folks who do pirated software. So you don’t need to hunt for such stuff in Sim Lim Square – honest – there are none.5. Make Sure You Bring Enough CashIf you’re trying to buy stuff in Sim Lim Square, please do make sure you have enough Singapore dollars. The thing about buying stuff in Sim Lim Square is that many of the shops accept only cash.
Some of them accept NETS but don’t count on it.
It’s safer for you to have liquid cash on hand. Oh, and try to bring Singapore
dollars and not US dollars – its probably more acceptable to the shop owners. ConclusionWell, I hope I’ve given you some good insight into how to buy stuff at Sim Lim Square. This place is one of the most popular electronics and computer shops in Singapore (and I suspect in Southeast Asia too) – follow the above tips to make sure you have the best shopping experience!
