Buying Furniture
in Singapore

If you intend to renovate you home in Singapore, don't worry - there are tons of furniture shops for you to choose from.

Many expatriates here live in high-end condominiums and want the highest quality furniture. Yes, you can find a lot of up market furniture shops, but they will sell you furniture at exorbitant prices.

If you look hard enough, you can find some good bargain shops around too.

In this article, let's take a look at where you can find some great furniture in the island city ...

1. Up-Market Furniture

If you prefer a more contemporary and fashionable style of furniture, then Singapore is simply a furniture haven. Where do you pick up such furniture, you ask? Well, the furniture shops at Park Mall are the best places to visit.

This place is a truly up market and posh area - the furniture prices are high but come from the best designer brands like Phillip Stark. You can find stuff like designer sofa set, bar chairs, bed sets and wonderful looking beds for the children.

2. Mid-Range Furniture

If you're looking for more affordable furniture, some good shops include IKEA, vHIVE and Barang Barang. IKEA is hugely successful and popular in Singapore, and is found in Queenstown and Tampines. Most taxi drivers will know exactly where the IKEA shops are.

vHIVE is found in some shopping malls (e.g. Funan Centre) and also offers mid-range furniture, although they tend to have more office furniture than others. You can also visit Barang Barang at Tanglin Mall - it stocks some pretty good stuff.

3. Bargain Furniture

If you want to find some bargain level furniture, some of the best places to check out are the neighborhood HDB estates. Many small retail shop owners dot the HDB new towns like Ang Mo Kio and Clementi and they sell well-made furniture for ridiculously low prices. Always make sure you check the quality though.

One option I did not mention is of course, the classified ads in the local newspaper, EBay or Yahoo! auctions. Cold Storage Jelita along Holland Road also allows folks to post up little classifieds for selling their furniture and other stuff. It's a place I check out very often.

Conclusion

There are many, many deals and options for the furniture shopper in Singapore. While the premium shops are expensive, they give very high grade quality stuff. If you're shopping from the road side shops, do be careful not to get cheated. So, until next time, happy shopping and good luck with your furniture hunt!
