Does the Singapore Zoo Have a Panda?

Ok, here's an interesting question I got asked recently by a friend - does the Singapore Zoo keep a panda?

Well, some of you might think that pandas exist only in China. Well, the truth is, the Singapore Zoo keeps some nice pandas on display and they are definitely one of the most well received animals in the zoo. If you want to learn more, then just read on and find out ...

1. Endangered Panda Bears

If you want to view an endangered species, the panda bear is one of them. The poor things have been hunted down by folk who do not care two hoots about the animals in our environment.

The Singapore Zoo has a set of endangered panda bears on loan from China - if you ever drop by the Singapore Zoo, they are a must visit (along with the orang utans and the white tigers).

2. What does the the Panda Bear Eat?

You may imagine that the panda bear is a carnivorous creature, devoring humans on sight (much like the grizzly bear). Well, amazingly, the panda bear has a vegetarian diet. It eats mostly bamboo shoots and is a very gentle animal. If you are visiting the Singapore Zoo, you will see them chewing on those bamboo shoots very often.

3. The World Wildife Fund

Hey, that panda bear looks familar, no? Well, you may have seen a panda bear - no, not just in the Singapore Zoo - but where else? Well, of course, in the logo of the World Wildlife Fund! The panda bear is marked as extremely endangered because of its loss of habitat and low birthrate.

4. When To Visit The Zoo

If you want to see the panda bear in the Singapore Zoo, one of the best times to visit is during the early afternoon. I find that in the evening or early morning, the panda bears there are pretty shy. So pick the right time and make the most of your zoo visit.

Conclusion

Well, I hope the above has given you some insight into the Singapore Zoo. And yes, it does have panda bears on display. Do treat these animals nicely, the poor things are soon going to be extinct if we don't take care of them.
