Singaporean Dishes

1. Overview

Singapore is known to be an international destination with a rich variety of food and cuisine. As known as a food lovers' paradise, Singapore is crammed with with coffee shops, restaurants, food courts, cafes and snack shops.

All curious kinds of dishes and appetizer foods can be found in Singapore. Do you fancy an early morning breakfast of kaya toast or congee? Or do  want some premium French wine and dishes. Or perhaps you want some Indian prata and curry, or Hokkien mee or just a plain old hamburger? You will find these and more in this little city.

If you want to try out some other dishes that you have not heard or tasted before, Singapore has lots to offer. Singapore is blessed with a bountiful produce of fresh sea food, fruits, meat and vegetables, and has over one hundred and fifty wet markets throughout the island.

Singapore food varies with each household and people from different countries living here have their own favorite dishes. Chinese would like some steamed fresh fish and stir-fried Chinese choy sum. An Indian would love a chicken curry and dal along with rasam. While a Malay family will eat rice with beef rendang.
 

2. Chinese Dishes

If you would like to have a taste of some Chinese dishes then try having popiah. A non-fried and bigger 'spring roll' it is basically thin flour based skin filled with shredded mixed vegetables, wow now that could be stomach filler. Some of the other Chinese dishes that you might like to taste are dim sum, Hokkien mee, Hainanese chicken rice and also pork rib soup. Other interesting dishes are wanton noodles, yong tau fo and Char Kway Teow.
 

3. Indian Dishes

You could try the taste of some Indian cuisine too. Indian roti prata is hugely popular here, served with a curry for dipping. The prata contains egg or cheese, but it can be oily at times.

At Indian restaurants you could find a mix range of cuisines. Indian dishes could be rasam or sambar along with rice, and also murtabak. Murtabak is an Indian version of the pizza; it contains a filling of meat (chicken, mutton) some vegetables and spices all rolled into a prata.

4. Malay Dishes

Malay dishes are quite popular among the locals and among the tourist too. Ice Kacang is a desert dish of small beans, corn and different jellies with shaved ice on which sugar syrup. Kueh Dada is a Malay sweet dessert consisting of a green, pandan flavored pancake filled with a mixture of grated coconut and brown liquid sugar.
