1. Overview With relatively low fares, Singapore taxicabs
are a very popular form of
public transport in the small little city. We're looking at something like over
20,000 taxis operated by seven different taxi companies. The complete close to
600,000 trips daily across the island. 2. Those Silvercab Singapore Taxis ... Usually, the taxis you see in Singapore are colored Blue (comfort); Yellow (Citycab) or Silver (Silvercab). Other less known taxis come in colourslike White (Tibs/SMRT), as well as Black and Yellow cabs. Traditionally, Blue and Yellow cabs have dominated our roads, but recently, silver cabs have made a strong headway into the market. Service-wise, I do find
that
Silvercab Singapore taxis come with better service, along with a
clean and hygienic interior, music to my liking, as well as a well-mannered and
courteous driver. Silvercab taxis also come with
an air
ionizer to keep the interior of the taxi sanitized and free of
odor. 3. Flagging Down Taxis Whether you prefer Silvercab taxis or not, you
will be able to flag down along any public road. Usually standing at a taxi stand
outside major buildings in the city will guarantee you a cab. However, in less densely populated areas,
it is more difficult to get taxis. You can, of course, book taxis via telephone or through the internet.
Fees are changed for these services, though. 4. Exploring The Island You will find that one of the best ways to see Singapore is simply by using taxis. If you want economy traveling, then take the taxi with 2 or more people. Typical fares are as follows:
5. Taxi Driver's Vocational Licence Whether your taxi is a Silvercab taxi or
another colored taxi, you will feel safer by knowing that all taxi drivers
within Singapore are required to hold a valid Taxi Driver's Vocational Licence (TDVL).
These are issued by the Singapore Land Transport Authority, after the drivers
have met basic pre-requisites and successfully passed a training course at the
Singapore Taxi Academy. As at Mar 2006, there were a total of about 83,000 TDVL
holders in Singapore. ConclusionNow you understand a thing or two about Silvercab taxis and the taxi operations in Singapore. If you're in town next time, remember the above tips for a smoother taxi ride. See ya soon!Related ArticlesYou may also wish to read the following related articles:
